NBA Draft 2011: Jimmer Fredette And The Top 10 Underrated Prospects

, many esteemed and proven players have fallen under the radar.  There are a number of players who aren’t getting their due, or even being talked about as legit NBA players.  This year’s 2011 NBA Draft could be a fairly deep one, with a number of prospects capable of making a roster and impact on the floor.  That said,SwishScout.compresents “The Top 10 Underrated 2011 NBA Draft Prospects.”

On each player, you can click on their name and school to take you to a more detailed profile for a more extensive scouting report on the respective prospect.

Burks was a relative unknown among recruiting circles before he went to Colorado and emerged as a talented scorer.  He is getting his due this year and has exceeded expectations with his scoring production. Only a sophomore, Burks still has a lot of potential to be amongst the best picks of this year if he leaves.

The Ohio Valley Conference standout has absolutely dominated in every facet of his game.  Faried is coveted for his great rebounding and defensive abilities and was an intriguing prospect to start this year.  He is on scouts’ radars but being at a smaller school limits the hype.  Nonetheless, he’s a nice prospect who has great upside despite having a very raw offensive game.

The senior has been one of the best pure scorers in NCAA basketball for a couple of years, yet has received little-to-no love from the league.  Questions swirl around him being undersized, whether or not he can create his own shot, and his defensive prowess.  However, when he’s hot, Dunn puts up big numbers fast and he’s a very good three-point shooter with NBA range.

Leonard’s reputation is growing as an NBA prospect and could be one the best rebounders available in June.  Not only can Kawhi put up big numbers for himself, but also he also has great court vision and ball skills that allow him to setup teammates.  This Aztec is a very smart player but has a quiet game that has been publicized very little outside of NBA Draft circles.

Jimmer has been on a roll and is the hottest player in the NCAA with a rising draft stock.  In just the last week, he has cemented his legend in Provo as an elite scorer and big time gamer for the Cougars.  Debatable as to if he is overrated by NBA standards because of the hype and legend he has growing at BYU, he is proving that he can play and belongs in the league.

Another veteran senior who has been very solid during his college career, McCamey got off to a hot start but has since cooled.  He has been among the NCAA leaders in assists the past couple of seasons and is immaculately shooting over 50 percent from three this season.  Demetri is one of the best pure PG prospects available, but is being undervalued because he’s older and doesn’t have as much upside as the underclassman rated above him.

Leslie is one of the most explosive athletes and dunkers of the bunch, andif you don’t believe me, here’s proof.  Travis is a very good rebounding guard and playmaker and although he's only 6’4”, he plays bigger than he is because of his athleticism.  He’s rarely mentioned as a great NBA prospect, but could get his due if he improves his perimeter game and ball handling.

His statistics don’t lie; Smith probably isn’t even considered the second-best player on his team but his production has been superb.  His game has progressed by leaps and bounds in Durham over the past few years, and Smith’s skills are setting him apart as a legit NBA combo guard.  His upside may not match that of his peers, but you will not find a more solid prospect in the 20-30 range of the draft.

The renowned shooter has picked up his overall game and become a more complete player for Wazzu this season.  He has become more aggressive off the dribble and is attacking the basket, creating for himself and setting up teammates along the way.  Thompson’s stock has been rising steadily this season, but has still taken a hit in the eyes of NBA teams because of his athleticism and lack of muscle.

The preseason first team All-American is hardly ever mentioned in the same sentence as the NBA and it’s really puzzling.  He has the length, size, defensive presence and developing post game to be an impact player in the league.  The only real questions come from his frame and athleticism, but JaJuan still gets very little recognition for his solid play in the paint.  Where his stock is currently, Johnson could end up being a steal for a team in the second round.
