It’s another year, and the United States Navy will continue to bring the Navy closer to home, through this year’s line-up of Navy Week celebrations. Twenty-one cities across the country have been selected to host a Navy Week celebration in 2011, where the Navy story will be told and re-told, by the people who know it best.
This year’s Navy Week celebrations will kick-off in Tampa Bay, Florida, on January 22, in conjunction with the celebration of the Gasparilla Pirate Festival. Rear Adm. Richard C. Vinci, Deputy Chief for Logistics and Installations of the Bureau of Medicine and Surgery, and Rear Adm. Gary W. Rosholt, Deputy Commanding General of the Special Operations Command, U.S. Central Command, will serve as the leading spokespeople for Tampa Bay Navy Week.
The proclamation of Tampa Bay Navy Week was held last Thursday, by Commissioner Al Higginbotham, Chair of the Hillsborough County Commission, in Hillsborough County. On Friday night, the U.S. Navy Dixie Land Band is scheduled to perform aboard the American Victory Ship, kicking off Gasparilla season. The Navy will then participate in the Children’s Gasparilla Parade on Saturday afternoon.
Tampa Bay Navy Week will be celebrated from January 22 to 29, 2011.
