Coyle-Cassidy's Frank Cambria carries the puck up the ice against a Martha's Vineyard player during Saturday's game against Martha's Vineyard
The Coyle-Cassidy hockey team set the tone early in the first two periods and then held on to beat Martha’s Vineyard 4-3 in an Eastern Athletic Conference matchup at CDL Ice Arena.
Mike Jessman, Greg DiBona, Connor Matthews and Davis Gorey each scored for the Warriors (4-2-1).
Senior goalie Kelan Galligan picked up his first varsity win in goal, stopping 15 shots on net.
"It was a good win," C-C head coach David Borges said. "We lost earlier against Archies but we’re starting to play good hockey. The team is starting to gel as far as playing together."
The Warriors scored the first two goals in the first period to jump out to 2-1 lead. Jessman recorded the game’s first goal on an assist from Ryan Jones. DiBona then netted his first varsity goal on an assist from senior captain Alex Travers.
C-C dominated the second period, outshooting the Vineyards, 17-6. Matthews made the score 3-1 on an assist from Travers. Gorey put the Warriors in front 4-1 on an assist from R.J. McCann.
The Vineyards scored two goals in the final period but it was too little, too late.
The Warriors will take on St. Mary’s of Lynn on Monday and also Bridgewater-Raynham on Wednesday night.
