ABC Sport - Sports coverage for cricket, afl, rugby league, rugby union, football, tennis and more

Entering the knockout phase of the Asian Cup captain Lucas Neill articulated the motivation on behalf of the surviving members of Australia's golden generation.

My ambition is to win this tournament for the team and for Australia.

I think we deserve to be able to put a title next to our name after eight or nine years of hard work and two World Cup qualifications.

It's important for the game in Australia that we continue to build momentum and winning the Asian Cup or being successful in a campaign keeps that momentum going.
