A Snowmobilers Kind of Year

Rich Wisneiwski 12/24/2010 When the snow falls it usually means bad roads, shoveling, and inconveniences. But for other people, they can`t wait.

Many businesses dread the snow, because it keeps customers at home, but there is at least one business that thrives on it.

"It`s key to get it early, it drives businesses for the whole season," said Brandon Solem a salesman at Paradise Day Spa.

Solem is loving the weather right now. They have seen their snow toys driving out almost by the second.

"The amounts we have gotten. People are just real eager to go out by sleds," Solem added.

But what is it about cruising on the white powder that gets your juices flowing? We asked North Dakota Snowmobile Hall of Famer Jerry Lawson. Even after all these years of riding he still lives for the thrill of the ride.

"With the acceleration and power these units have, its just fun," Lawson said.

"This year we sold almost all of our first loads of sleds in the first couple weeks," Solem added.

But it`s not just recreation; some may find these toys handy in the winter.

"We got 4-wheelers, we been selling quite a few, we have a package going on right now where we got a wench and plow set up," he added.

With winter just beginning, the snowmobile industry thinks this could be a banner year.

"I have been here two years and this December has been one of the best, it`s been one of their better years they can remember in a long time."

Who knew winter could be so much fun!
