R.I.P Teena Marie- R&B Queen Passes On

Damn it all. Why are all my favorite entertainers dying?! I get it, my taste is from decades past and people get old – but Teena Marie? This one I’m mad at because the woman was only 54-years-old. It turns out that the amazing songstress had encountered some health scares in the months leading up to her tragic death. Teena had suffered from a series of seizures, including a grand mal seizure as recently as a month ago that resulted in a couple of broken ribs after collapsing. An ambulance was called at the time, and the singer ended up having another one on the way to the hospital. After that, friends say that she was so shook up about her recent onslaught of health scares that she would even have someone sleep next to her for fear of the episodes reoccurring. What a shitty way to have to live your life. Apparently Teena did have someone sleeping next to her the night before she passed, but it wasn’t until a nap the next afternoon that her daughter found her unconscious. Holy crap! Her daughter? Poor girl. Obviously the cause of death is unknown still since there were no illegal drugs found at the scene – the only drug found was diazepam, which was prescribed to Marie for her seizing – and of course this crap always seems to take longer when there’s a celebrity involved, but she is suspected to have died of natural causes. This could very well be the case since the R&B singer reportedly stopped taking her diazepam and replaced it with herbal remedies. Jeez, what a waste of an amazing talent. That woman could sing her white ass off. She said it herself:

“I’m a black artist with white skin. At the end of the day you have to sing what’s in your own soul.”

She sure the hell sang it. She was a legend in the R&B world, which wasn’t easy to do when you were a white woman, and her hits “Lovergirl,” “Ooo La La La” and “Portuguese Love” reinvented the Motown and R&B scene. How sad. Rest easy T; you’re probably looking down on us from some psychedelic cloud with Rick James now. Thanks for the talent.
