HYDERABAD: Two engineering first year students died in a road accident near Pedamberpet on Sunday morning.
The tragic incident occurred at around 11.30 am when three girls and an equal number of boys, all pursuing their bachelor degrees in the city, were going on three bikes to Ramoji Film City (RFC). Near Pedamberpet, a speeding truck (AP 24 Y 5655) rammed into one of the bikes from behind.
Due to the impact of the collision, the duo on the bike __ Vinay Kumar of Nacharam and Sri Soumya of Ashok Nagar __ fell on the road.
The rear tyres of the truck ran over Soumya, while Vinay suffered critical head injuries when he hit the road. Both of them died on the spot, Hayatnagar SI S Devender said.
Soumya was a student of Keshav Memorial Institute of Technology at Narayanguda, while Vinay was pursuing B Tech at Gurunanak Engineering College in Ibrahimpatnam.
Immediately after the accident, the truck driver abandoned the vehicle at a distance and fled from the spot. Police registered a case under Section 304-A (causing death due to rash or negligent act) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) against the truck driver and launched a manhunt to nab him.
