Stocks Down, but Rebounding on Greek News (GOOG, YHOO)

Stocks were declining today, but saw a slight recovery when the International Monetary Fund consented to a new five-year-austerity measure for Greece. Other economic data was more negative, with jobless claims up to a seasonally adjusted 429,000, and new home sales falling to a seasonally adjusted 319,000 in May. In response to rising gas prices, the International Energy Agency announced that its members would be releasing oil from their reserves, with the United States to provide half of the announced amount. Meanwhile, an unconfirmed report has stated that the Federal Trade Commission will be launching an antitrust investigation against Google ( GOOG ). Yahoo ( YHOO ) CEO Carol Bartz also faced a tough round of questioning at the company’s shareholder meeting.
