Vote for the Huskies

The Huskies are nominated for their record-breaking 90-game winning streak.

STORRS, Conn. – The University of Connecticut women’s basketball team has been nominated for an ESPY in the Best Record Breaking Performance category.   The ESPY’s, which celebrate the best moments of the year in the world of sports, will be hosted by ESPN’s Seth Meyers and broadcast live on Wednesday, July 13 at the Nokia Theater in downtown Los Angeles.

The 2011 ESPY’s will be televised live on ESPN and ESPNHD at 9 p.m. EDT.   The record breaking performance came when the team won an astounding 90-consecutive games from 2008-10.

In addition to the 2010-11 squad being nominated for the Best Record Breaking Performance Category, former UConn stars Maya Moore and Diana Taurasi are also on the list of nominees.   Moore is nominated for the Best Female Athlete and the Best Female Collegiate Athlete ESPY’s while Taurasi is nominated for the best WNBA Player ESPY.

The team is up against former UConn men’s basketball great breaking the NBA 3-point field goal mark, Rory McIlroy running away with the 2011 United States Open and Derrick Rose becoming the youngest player to ever be named NBA MVP.

Fans will have the chance to select the winners by voting online or by mobile device at espn.com/espys or on the ESPN facebook page: facebook.com/espn .
