News and Tribune briefs for June 30, 2011

WIRE AND STAFF REPORTS newsroom@newsandtribune.com The News and Tribune Wed Jun 29, 2011, 07:16 PM EDT

On Friday, Beef O’ Brady’s on Veterans Parkway in Jeffersonville will be holding a fundraiser for a local Boy Scouts troop.

Diners that mention Boy Scout Troop 1 will have 15 percent of the proceeds donated to the troop. There will also be free entertainment with local teenage bands Lizzyz Revenge and Good Evening, Miss. The music starts at 7.

The city of Jeffersonville will host a public forum from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m., July 12, at First Christian Church, 3209 Middle Road, for the purpose of discussing drainage within the Oak Park Conservancy District.

Following the annexation of neighborhoods within the Oak Park Conservancy District, the city assumed responsibility for drainage relating to road rights-of-way and Lancassange Creek. Other drainage within those neighborhoods — such as rights-of-way between houses — remains the responsibility of the Oak Park Conservancy District.

An Oak Park Conservancy District staff member also plans to attend the forum.

Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church, 8211 Stacy Road [Ind. 403], Charlestown, will host the first in a series of fish fries from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at the church.

The New Albany High School Class of 1981 will hold its 30th reunion from 7 to 11 p.m., July 23, at the Calumet Club in New Albany.

For more information, call Whitney at 812-989-6986 or go to the class of 1981 Facebook page.

From 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, the Friends of the New Albany-Floyd County Public Library will hold a book sale in the library’s annex building at the corner of Spring Street and Scribner Drive.

The book sale will celebrate Hermann Hesse’s birthday with a 50 percent discount on all books in the classics section. There will also be a large display of children’s books on the American Revolution. Regular prices are $1 for hardbacks, videos and DVDs; 50 cents for paperbacks and CDs; 25 cents for cassette tapes; 10 cents for magazines; and 5 cents for vinyl records. Children’s books are available at prices of $1 or less.

A large donation of books on tape and music cassette tapes has just been made to the book sale and will sell for 25 cents per tape.

New Albany Little League Softball will host its second-annual golf scramble July 16 at Wooded View Golf Course in Clarksville.

Registration begins at 7:30 a.m. with a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m.

An awards reception and lunch will follow the scramble. There will be a hole-in-one contest sponsored by Coyle Chevrolet. There will also be prizes for the top three teams as well as other prizes.

Sponsorship opportunities are available which include $100 hole sponsorship or a sponsorship package which includes a sign at the NALLS softball complex and hole sponsorship for $250.
