Prince William Swim League

for the week of June 25:

VIRGINIA OAKS SUN DEVIL Four more records fell at Virginia Oaks.  Daniel Wong , 10, improved his individual medley record with a 1:32.36 and swam a record-setting 40.41 in the backstroke.   Wong , Burdette, Capannelli and Corrado swam a 1:18.66 in the 9-10 Medley Relay and Yu, Johnson, Morrill and Graham swam a 1:57.38 in the 13-14 freestyle relay.”

Sam Pomajevich broke the Prince William Swim League record in the Boys 11-12 50-meter butterfly to help Sudley beat Ridgewood by 748 points Saturday in Woodbridge. Sudley has won 82 consecutive meets, dating to 1999.Pomajevich’s time of 30.32 beat the PWSL record of 30.40, set by Sudley’s John Wojciechowski in 2004. Pomajevich , who, now holds PWSL butterfly records in three age divisions, also won the medley relay in the PWSL-best time of 1:16.29 and the breaststroke in 41.66.

In Girls 11-12, Jillian Fritsch won the backstroke (36.81) and freestyle (32.18) and teamed with Kimberly Rector , Cora Bardwell and Fiona Campbell to win the medley relay (1:07.94) – all in PWSL-best times for the week. Bardwell swam a county-best 34.15 to win the butterfly.

Other Sudley swimmers who had PWSL-best times in Week 2 of the summer season:

The Kingsbrooke Sea Lions, led by triple winners Nathan Brown , Delaney Hooks , Andrew Proper , and Brayden Rudd , lost a close one to Piedmont by 10 points.  Record breakers were Andrew Proper (13-14 100 IM), Brayden Rudd (9-10 50 Freestyle and 50 Breaststroke), and the team of Jim Zieleman , Kyle Helpard , Nick Stames , and Ryan Hutcherson (11-12 100 Medley Relay).  Proper’s 13-14 100 individual medley and 50 breaststroke and Rudd’s 9-10 50 breaststroke were Week 2 PWSL top times.

The Blasters are 2-0 after a win against the Ashland Stingrays. Several swimmers made a real splash by racking up three individual wins each in the Blasters’ home pool. Congratulations to Luke Cumberland (13-14), Will Cumberland (11-12), and Ian Tansill (9-10). The Braemar team faces Sudley on July 2 nd .

The Stingrays lost a hard fought meet on Saturday against the Blasters. The following team records were set: 9/10 boys’ medley relay (Mahan, Quantrille, Diaz , Kurucz), 9/10 Boys 100 individual medley (Diaz), 9/10 Boys 50 Backstroke (Diaz), 9/10 Boys 50 butterfly (Diaz), 9/10 Girls 50 butterfly (Christie), 15/18 Girls 50 Breaststroke (Bodmer), 13/14 Boys 50 backstroke (Yost), 9/10 Boys 100 freestyle relay (Kurucz, Mahan, Quantrille, Diaz), 15/18 Boys 200 freestyle relay (Schmelzinger, Guzik, Swanson, Hughes).

  Romain-Olivier Gray , Katie Lyons , Kelly Henry , and Brandon Anderson all achieved first place finishes in each of their three individual events for the Breakers.This was the second straight week of across-the- board time improvements for  Klint Edgemon and Weston Marshall . Also posting time improvements in all events were Kaylie Benson,  Conner Karlen ,  Ryan Marovia , Stephanie Quick , Christian Rector , Brian Reed , Jane Tallman , and Emily Turner .  

The Lancers did not pull off the win, but they had a great meet against  Victory Lakes .  A total of 129 Lancer swimmers scored 2,557 points against more than 180 Piranhas who scored 2,708 points.   Philip Mazzoccoli , Lauren Donohoe , Elisabeth Vogel , and Mitchell Nicolai all had 5 out of 5 first place finishes for the Lancers.  Also, the Lancers’ very own Allison Harner swam the fastest 8 and under 25-meter freestyle time in the league on Saturday.

In an exciting meet that was not decided until the final relays, the Lake Manassas Blue Dolphins came up short against the Ben Lomond Flying Ducks by just eight points.  For the second week in a row, the girls’ 9-10 and 15-18 freestyle relays set team records.  Individual records were established by Bryan Patten in the boys’ 10-and -under- individual medley and Robbie Owens in the boys’ 11-12 50 breaststroke.

The Wellington Dolphins celebrated a close victory this week topping the Meadowbrook Makos 2,596.5 to 2,416,50.  Alex Whiteree (13-14 boys) topped the PWSL with wins in the 50 freestyle and  butterfly.  Wes Whiteree (11-12 Boys) finished first in the PWSL in the 50 freestyle and also participated in the league-topping 11-12 Boys’ freestyle relay team along with Paul Marron , Sean Sorensen and Nick Dean .  John O’Brien (9-10 Boys) joined Wes Whiteree to celebrate a perfect meet with five first-place finishes as did, Erin Quinn (9-10 girls), who continues to dominate the pool with an undefeated season.

The Meadowbrook Makos had another great swimming week. More records were broken by our 15-18 girls.  Congratulations to Courtney Mizerak and Lauren Sargent , who set new Makos records against the Wellington Dolphins .  Mizerak topped her own Makos record times in the 50M Back (32.53) and 50M Breast (35.20), and Sargent beat her Makos record in the 50M Fly (32.45).
