Adrenaline gymnasts shine at competition

In its first year of operation, the Adrenaline Gymnastics and Training Centre qualified 15 competitive gymnasts for the Ontario Women’s Artistic Gymnastics Championship.

The provincial championship was split into two sessions with the first in Niagara Falls and the second two weeks later in Windsor. The gymnasts performed routines in floor, beam, vault and bars and were judged in categories based on age and level.

Kicking off the competition was the Novice National division. Alexxia Bascombe had a strong performance in a difficult field of competitors.

The next day Kyla Perkins, Level 9, age 12, 13 had a consistent meet in a difficult level, earning 11th in vault.

Later the competitive Pre-Novice National Aspire athletes age 9 competed with Megan Lithgow, Taylor Beausoliel and Amanda Falcone all having strong showings. Lithgow earned a fifth-place finish in bars with Beausoliel collecting a 10th in floor.

Taylor Perkins in age 10 Pre-Novice Elite placed fifth in both vault and beam, eighth in floor and ninth in bars, finishing eighth overall.

The second session began with Melody Periera, Level 8 age 10, 11 who earned a fourth in beam. Heather Smith, Level 7 age 11 had a consistent meet, finishing 11th in vault.

Annie Cranston in Level 6 age 12 earned a fifth in floor. Tasha Evans, Daniela Massara and Kyliene Downey-Sparks all showed well in Level 6, age 13. Evans earned a bronze in floor, fifth in beam and sixth in bars, with a sixth all around. Massara had an exceptional vault to claim the gold medal, along with third in floor, seventh in beam and eighth overall. Downey-Sparks received fifth in floor, and seventh in bars with a ninth overall.

Lina-Nicole Massara competed in level age 14+, earning a fourth place in beam, 11th in vault and floor.

Lillian Carcao in Level 5, age 10 managed a fifth in floor, 10th in beam and 11th in bars. In Level 5, age 12 Isabel Paz received a fifth in floor, seventh in beam, eighth in bars with 11th overall.

Coaches Laura Mooney and Sandi Perkins worked hard to help the girls achieve their goals.
