Veterans’ Day falls victim to bad weather - Local News - Sport - Lawn Bowls - Narromine News

At 15-5 after 13 of the 18 ends had been completed, the boys must have switched off, will have to get a report from my spy, watch this space. So at day’s end Molong got the chocolates 4-2 and we eagerly await the return battle in a few weeks. This Sunday Narromine hosts West Dubbo in the next round of this event, with the selectors to finalise the squad on this week.

What’s happening, what’s coming up, and all that JAZZ? Well this coming Saturday “Katts” Karaoke featuring Lynda and John Edwards will be playing in the Club Lounge, sure to be entertaining as always. Our Presentation Night has been gazetted for Saturday November 5 and members and Guests are “urged” to plonk their name down on the list on the Club Notice board if you are coming along to the always interesting evening. The business house bowls on Friday nights is due to commence early November, and a host of flyers have been posted around town, if you haven’t seen one or want to know more simply ring the club on 6889 1164 and get your team a start in what is always a great night of fun. Richard Duff and his team from the Narromine Butchery are again on board and will be supplying some great prizes for the competition and the raffles as well, so if you’re not in, why not have a go, you don’t have to be a bowler to join in, and the way the competition is run, you don’t even have to win your game to necessarily win a prize.

Our regular Wednesday Night Euchre players are going from strength to strength with another 28 shuffling up and dealing last week, and they also found time to present some cheques to a couple of local charities as well out of the profits the committee has managed to garner each week. Chairman Mal and his team welcome any interest persons to come along and join in each Wednesday from 7pm.

And finally on a lighter side, my brother Geoffrey and I had the pleasure of accompanying State Councillor Pat Wynne to Peak Hill President’s Day last Sunday as part of the “Royal” team. The new President Steve Robinson was a most gracious host, ensuring we won the morning prize, and then Geoffrey double dipped, winning the highly prestigious “SPIDER” event after lunch. Pat and I were so duly impressed by that performance we got him to skip the afternoon game, and despite him putting a special down, which will cost him a $1 in the little white tin behind our bar, we also managed to win the afternoon game as well, just lucky I guess, although as I’m writing this column my knees don’t fell that lucky- been a while since they got a full days treatment on the greens, enjoyed it whilst it was happening though. So until next week, good health and better bowling.
