Celebrity Birthdays, October 28

Happy birthday to Joaquin Phoenix, Julia Roberts and Bruce Jenner!

The younger brother of the late River Phoenix is better known as Joaquin, but when he was 4 years old, he decided he wanted a more earthy name like his siblings and denominated himself Leaf , after raking leaves in the backyard with his dad. Aside from acting in hit films like Gladiator , Signs and Walk the Line , he is also a huge animal rights advocate. Phoenix is a strict vegan, PETA spokesperson, and once refused to wear shoes during a Prada photo shoot because they were made out of leather. And while filming Gladiator , Quills and Walk the Line , he requested the costume designers make his outfits from synthetic materials. In 2006, Phoenix won a Best Actor Golden Globe for Walk the Line . He definitely could relate to Johnny Cash and his drug and alcohol problems. In 2005, the actor checked into rehab for alcoholism. Although he announced in 2008 that he was quitting acting, it looks like Phoenix is going to take back his words. According to IMDb , he'll star in 2013's The Master .

While America's sweetheart is much more famous than brother Eric, she actually didn't even consider an acting career until he began making a name for himself in Hollywood. Julia Roberts actually wanted to become a veterinarian before studying journalism in college. Now she's a household name, starring in classics like Pretty Woman , My Best Friend's Wedding and Steel Magnolias . But the three-time Oscar winner has had her fair share of rejections. At the beginning of her career, she was turned down for a role in All My Children . And acting isn't the only joy in Roberts's life. In 2005, she gave birth to twins Hazel and Phinnaeus and welcomed son Henry two years later. She can next be seen playing the Evil Queen in an untitled Snow White movie coming out next year and said she would not be telling her kids about her villainous character.

The Olympic gold medalist may have achieved fame through athletics, but he's making millions off a totally different career nowadays. The Keeping Up with the Kardashians cast member has become a full blown reality star. Over the past four years , millions have watched him walk Kim and Khloe down the aisle, give Kendall and Kylie the sex talk and deal with Kris trying to change her name back to Kardashian. But the show isn’t Jenner’s first stint with TV. Back in 1981, he starred on CHiPs and The Golden Moment: An Olympic Love Story in 1980. Jenner is also proud papa to The Hills star Brody Jenner, who he had from his second marriage with Linda Thompson.
