SPENDING a week in a shop window on full view to the public may not be everyone’s cup of tea.

But for two Harrogate residents the warmth of home has been traded for life as a squatter, to raise money for Saint Michael’s Hospice.

Jason Odle and Ben Davis - who run Harrogate company Vida Media - have already spent five nights sleeping, eating and drinking in a tiny 2 x 3m sq space in the window on Parliament Street.

The currently-vacant property has been loaned to the pair by owner Philip Lunn of Lateral Property Group.

Their stint as human mannequins will end on Sunday night by which time they hope to raise thousands of pounds for the Harrogate charity.

Speaking to the Advertiser via their intercom system, the pair were in high spirits, with a number of activities planned for the weekend.

“The response has been fantastic,” said Jason.

“We’ve not been bored at all to be honest. So far it has been pretty relentless, a bit of a blur. The days are planned out, so we’ve had plenty to do and the support we’ve had from the people of Harrogate has been fantastic. We’ve had food and drink delivered here and local businesses have really looked after us. We can’t thank everyone enough for their help.”

Various fundraising events have also taken place in front of the shop throughout the week.

These have included cake decorating, cocktail making, planned and spontaneous performances by local musicians and a fitness session every lunchtime.

“We’ve had a few interesting requests via the intercom,” said Ben.

“Someone wanted us to dress up like Morecambe and Wise. He said he had the costumes at home, but he left and never came back.”

And the first thing they will do when they leave? “We’ll both go next door to Albert’s and have a pint.” said Ben.
