Since arriving at Cave Creek Cactus Shadows in April to take over the football program, coach Greg Davis has shown off great organizational skills. But can he keep a team with only one returning defensive starter playoff quality?

That will be his challenge as he replaces Chad DeGrenier, who has moved on to Mesa Mountain View with his spread, pass-heavy offense.
Davis lost one returning starter in Cameron Larson, who transferred this summer to Scottsdale Saguaro.
Larson was a top tackler last season when the Falcons reached the Class 4A Division I playoffs.
But Davis is upbeat after watching his defenders grow over the summer.
"Defensively, I believe that we will be able to stop the run," Davis said. "We have some great looking prospects inside the box."
Davis pointed out Brad Souva, Tommy Pritchard, Ashton Keown, Andrew Stephens, Saul Monteon and Brian Lynn among those who should make strong defensive contributions.
The offense returns four starters, including junior quarterback Bryce Kinsler, who had the best 2010 stats among returning starters in the state. Kinsler passed for more than 3,000 yards last season.
Davis said he doesn't plan to go completely away from the spread offense that DeGrenier employed with great success.
But expect more balance with R.J. Anderson, a capable runner.
Even though Kinsler loses his top two targets - John Leonard and Joree Schneider - he has enough talent to make plays. Included are Kyle Gladstone, Pritchard, Cody and Connor Folts and Connor Cozen.
Davis also likes the offensive line, led by Monteon, Landon Weaver and Joey Murphy.
Things Davis felt he has needed to address are mental toughness and leadership.
"That could be our downfall," he said.
Davis also will take on the defensive coordinator responsibilities.
But by game time, Davis believes, "We will be ready."
