When the Minnesota Vikings hesitated in making their selection in the 2003 NFL Draft, the Jacksonville Jaguars and Baltimore Ravens jumped in to make their picks, selecting QB Byron Leftwich and Terrell Suggs, respectively. Leftwich had been on the Ravens radar but they never expected Suggs to drop to them at the 10th pick. They grabbed him right away and then traded up later in the first round to draft QB Kyle Boller. The fact that both Suggs and Boller were drafted in the first round of the 2003 NFL Draft is the only thing they have in similar as far as they playing careers.
Suggs has become one of the better outside linebackers in the NFL, having a career-best season in 2010 with 11 sacks, and is extremely under-rated as a run stopper. He won NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year in 2003 and has been selected to the Pro Bowl four times.
Recently, Suggs was not even mentioned in discussing the Top Ten pass rushers in the NFL, which should only continue to motivate him. Despite not having much help rushing the passer from teammates, he still made life miserable for opposing quarterbacks, despite being consistently double-teamed, and had a career-best three sacks in the Ravens playoff loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Sizzle might not get the publicity that his fellow linebacker Ray Lewis deservedly gets, but he is the most disruptive force on the Ravens defense and plans to continue doing that for quite a long time while wearing purple and black.
