Barry Sanders to Announce Lions Second Round Draft Pick

» Football News Now Staff Writer » April 22, 2011 - 9:18 am

Legendary Detroit Lions running back and NFL Hall of Famer Barry Sanders will be on hand in New York City to announce the Lions second round pick at next weekend’s NFL Draft.

Sanders, who was the Lions first-round pick in 1989 out of Oklahoma State ranks third on the NFL’s all-time rushing list, despite playing just 10 seasons in the league.  He was the NFL MVP in 1997, a Pro Bowl selection in every season he was in the league and the 1989 NFL Rookie of the Year after winning the Heisman Trophy at Oklahoma State.

According to the NFL, this will be the first time that the league has representatives from their former teams announcing each draft pick.  The Panthers, Dolphins and Jets do not have selections in the second round, so their representatives will announce their team’s picks in the third round.

In addition to Sanders, other former stars that will announce picks include:  Richard Dent of the Bears, Chris Doleman of the Vikings, Anthony Munoz of the Bengals and Franco Harris of the Pittsburgh Steelers.
