UFC 126 “Silva vs. Belfort” Live Attendance, Gate Receipts, And Medical Suspensions | MMA News

ufc 126 “Silva vs. Belfort” was a notable UFC Pay-Per-View for several reasons. In the main event, Anderson Silva used a kick primarily utilized to create distance between yourself and your opponent… to basically put his opponent so close to unconsciousness that I’m pretty sure Vitor Belfort couldn’t tell the difference. It was a tough loss for the spirited “Phenom”, but how long will he be on the sidelines because of it? And how successful was the show overall? Here are the official medical suspensions as well as the live attendance and gate receipts for UFC 126 “Silva vs. Belfort”.

We first head to MMA Junkie for a report on how the show performed as a live event. Early estimates say that UFC 126 drew 10,893 to the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas, Nevada. Those fans ended up generating a live gate of 3.6 million dollars before the night was through.

We then head to MMA Weekly to see who got medically suspended and for how long following the night’s action-packed (well, most of them were) fights. The big news coming out of this report is that Forrest Griffin, who recently returned from an extended hiatus, might end up going right back on the injured list. Griffin could miss up to six months of action. Vitor Belfort, who found himself on the wrong end of a heinous knockout after a career filled with dishing them out, was only suspended for about six and a half weeks.

The official list of UFC 126 medical suspensions is as follows.

Vitor Belfort is suspended until March 23, with no contact until March 8. Forrest Griffin must have his right foot x-rayed and if positive, he must be cleared by orthopedic doctor or no contact until August 5, 2011. Carlos Eduardo Rocha is suspended until March 23, with no contact until March 8 due to a scalp laceration. Jake Ellenberger must have both hands x-rayed and if positive must be cleared by an orthopedic doctor or no contact until August 5, 2011. Paul Kelly is suspended until March 23, with no contact until March 8 due to a right eyebrow laceration. Michihiro Omigawa is suspended until April 7 with no contact until April 7 due to a right eyebrow laceration and head blows. Chad Mendes is suspended until March 23 with no contact until March 8. Gabe Ruediger is suspended until April 7 with no contact until April 7 due to a right eyebrow laceration and TKO. Ricardo Romero is suspended until March 23 with no contact until March 8. Kenny Robertson is suspended until March 23 with no contact until March 8.

If the numbers hold true, “Silva vs. Belfort” should be a big success in terms of revenue. That’s definitely a good thing, because it demonstrates the drawing power of Anderson Silva and also gives concrete proof that the UFC is off to an amazing 2011.

In regards to the fighters that made the injured list, I hope Griffin gets a clean bill of health. I think Griffin fought hard to get back some of his Light Heavyweight relevancy in his bout with Rich Franklin, and he reminded the fans why he’s a former UFC Light Heavyweight Champion. I’d hate to see his comeback halted before it ever really got a chance to get off the ground.

And what about you, fans and friends? Any thoughts on the gate receipts, live attendance figures, or medical suspensions?
